Wellness is a Lifestyle
A couple of months ago, I was telling a friend that I’ve been working out and eating healthfully for 20 years now, and she said, “Wow, that really is a lifestyle.” She was absolutely right.
The thing about wellness is exactly that. It IS a LIFESTYLE.
It isn’t a 3-day reset that you suffer through just to get to the end of it so you can say you “detoxed your liver” only to revert to eating all the same crap on day four (BTW, you can’t “detox” an overloaded liver in three days… you’re just scratching the surface of a fix). And after that nonsense, well… your liver just gave you the finger (on behalf of itself, your gut, and your metabolism!)
And if you’re going to do HIIT workouts everyday for two weeks straight (which FYI you should NEVER do without rest days!), just to end up in pain, exhausted, and burned out, and then “HIIT” the fast food joint down the street… guess what? Neither healthy NOR a lifestyle! Oh yeah, and your joints were just nominated as spokesman for your body and they said, “Hey, you’re lucky we didn’t end up in the ER,” and your joints (on behalf of themselves, your heart, and your kidneys!) used the other hand and gave you the finger.
Now, you’re running out of fingers, and your body’s pretty upset with you… so maybe try something sustainable instead and give yourself a bit of grace along the way.
What was that?! Sustainability? Grace? Yes, please… sign me up! See…
You have to be in it for the long game, and that means small sustainable steps incorporated into your daily life.

No false sense of perfection, no fad diets, no excruciating workouts, no fast-and-loose promises. You’ll see posts of simple and affordable healthy foods, a variety of exercise, dear friends and animals, the beauty of nature, encouraging quotes, spirituality, art, and positive perspective. That’s pretty much it. Do I have tough days too? Of course! That’s just a slice of life.
The healthy part of a challenge is developing a new way of seeing it.

Living a healthy lifestyle is actually pretty simple, but it doesn’t happen overnight. It’s created by the many small choices you make along your path. A healthy lifestyle is a journey, one that requires effort and can sometimes throw you a few curve balls, but
I can tell you it’s worth it.
You’ll acquire a new set of healthy skills and habits, and before you know it, your world has evolved into a healthy way of life! However, you need a ticket to embark on your healthy lifestyle journey, and
that ticket is a commitment to YOURSELF.
This could really turn into a VERY long post, so I’ll close by providing a little roadmap to start you on your journey:
1. Commit to your health because you understand your value.
If you struggle with self-worth, you’ll want to start with understanding your value and removing toxicity and roadblocks in your life (my book and workshop might help!). After all, it will be quite a struggle to commit to your health if you don’t believe in your own awesomeness first.
2. Decide that your long-term health is more important that a short-term fix.
Keep the big picture in mind here!
3. Make small sustainable changes that you barely notice and keep adding to them.
This becomes easier, as your body will begin to crave healthier choices all the way around. It’s like compound interest, but in a good way!
4. Keep going.
Maybe you had a difficult day; maybe you overindulged, skipped a workout, ditched your vegetables, or let road rage get the best of you. No worries. Don’t use that as an excuse to throw in the towel. Get back on the horse the next day. We all make mistakes because, as it turns out… we’re all HUMAN! 😉
